The Chiropractic and Fertility Link
The focus to solve the puzzle of infertility has recently been pointed to areas outside the reproductive system. One such focus is on the nervous system and the seemingly positive effects of chiropractic care on fertility.
A recent study published in the Journal of vertebral Subluxation Research, is getting a lot of positive press. The study detailed a number of cases where infertile women became pregnant while undergoing chiropractic care. These reports affirm what chiropractors have known for years.
Most people think of Chiropractic as a treatment for back pain. So how can this be explained?
Though Chiropractic care in itself is not a ‘cure’ or treatment for infertility, the correction of distortions of the spine often leads to improved nervous system function. Because the nervous system directs the activities of the reproductive organs, improved nerve flow can allow organs to function at their optimum, therefore improving fertility conditions. In addition, balancing the musculoskeletal structures of the pelvis including the ligaments that support the uterus, ovaries etc., can improve circulation, peristalsis and the overall vitality of the reproductive system. Many patients also experience less anxiety and tension when receiving chiropractic care and consider it an important part of a harmonious mind body connection.
Although the above mentioned studies are not yet conclusive, they are certainly compelling and offer great encouragement for a holistic approach that includes chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is less expensive than most fertility treatments and has the added benefits of improved health. It can be used separately or in conjunction with traditional medical treatment and is often covered by insurance.
When looking for solutions to infertility issues, consider chiropractic care and become one of many success stories like those reported in the study.
